MyCal Kuwana (マイカル桑名), is a major shopping mall in Kuwana run by ÆON.

It opened in 1995 and is technically the largest shopping complex in Mie by total area however this estimate includes its humongous parking lot. Judging only by the amount of commercial space available, Bell City in Suzuka is larger.

Facilities

There are three areas, First Avenue (1番街), Second Avenue (2番街), and Third Avenue (3番街); however these "avenues" are actually separate buildings. The majority of the shops are on First Avenue, entertainment is on Second Avenue, and food as well as the movie theater are on Third Avenue.

Everything is assumed to be First Avenue unless noted.

Shops

  • Saty
Department store with just about everything. Similar to Jusco.
  • Vivre
Very similar to Saty, almost like an extension of it. Both department stores contain a vast amount of clothing as well as a household goods area.
  • Seria
    Giant 100 yen shop
  • Comme Ça Ism
    Popular clothing shop
  • Muji
Huge selection of "unmarked name brand goods", sold cheaper than they would be otherwise
  • Sports Authority - Second Avenue
A giant mega sporting goods shop near one of the entrances, with a few more smaller ones scattered throughout the mall
  • Village Vanguard
Crazy stuff, like the "Spencer's Gifts" of Japan
  • Shinseidō (新星堂)
    Music and media
  • ABC Mart
    Shoe shop
  • Clothing
Shoes, pants, shirts, skirts, whatever you want it's all here and there's lots of it

Restaurants

The restaurant selection isn't as decent as a few of the other major shopping centers in the area, but nonetheless you can get yourself a bite to eat while at the mall.

Most proper restaurants are on Third Avenue, with the food court being at the bottom of First Avenue.

  • Starbucks - food court
  • Bakery - food court
  • Kentucky Fried Chicken - food court
  • Wakashachiya (若鯱家) - in food court
    Noodles and rice bowls
  • Takoyaki - in food court
  • McDonald's
  • Kuwana Ramen Alley (桑名らーめん街道) - Third Avenue
Perhaps the most notable entry here, a selection of different mini ramen shops all tucked into the same area of the mall.
  • Saizeriya - Third Avenue
    Cheap italian-themed family restaurant
  • Fūgetsu (風月) - Third Avenue
    Osaka-style okonomiyaki
  • Tonkatsu - Third Avenue
  • Rice Omelets - Third Avenue

Entertainment

  • Movie Theater - Third Avenue
8 screens, located on the second floor. Check link above for schedule and discounts
  • Plid's - Second Avenue
Game center and arcade. Has a moderate selection, and is one of the biggest in Kuwana, but is put to shame by others in nearby Yokkaichi and Suzuka.
  • Dynalecx - Third Avenue
    Another arcade? Indeed.
  • Grand Bowl - Second Avenue
Yes, if you want to go bowling before, during, or after your shopping experience, this is available to you as well.

Hours

  • All Shops - 10:00~21:00

Directions

By Train

First, get yourself to Kuwana (桑名) Station using either Kintetsu, JR, Sangi, or Yōrō. From Kuwana Station (JR side) you will need to catch a bus. It is about a 15 minute ride to the shopping center.

Just out the station, turn right and walk along a platform. After about a minute or so, you'll come to a set of stairs down to the ground. This should take you to the Kuwana Station bus rotary (which is right in front of Sangi Nishi-Kuwana Station).

Buses headed for MyCal Kuwana generally run out of bus stop #5, #6, or #7. Buses bound for the following destinations all stop at MyCal Kuwana:

  • Ageki (阿下喜)
  • Ōyamada Danchi (大山田団地)
  • Kuwana Neopolis (桑名ネオポリス)

By Bus

There are buses running via the highway between MyCal Kuwana and downtown Nagoya (both the Meitetsu Bus Center and Sakae). These buses also connect with areas of Tōin and Inabe and can be very convenient.

By Car

Along Route 258 in Kuwana, just at the intersection with Route 142. Fairly easy access from both the highway and Route 1.
