Atashika Beach (新鹿海水浴場 Atashika Kaisui Yokujō) is a nice beach between Owase and Kumano in southern Mie. It is crescent-shaped, has fine sand, and is surrounded by beautiful mountains.

There is parking along the main road, and primitive toilets nearby. It is also possible to camp on one end of the beach for a fee. The southern part of the beach is calmer and better for swimming, though keep an eye out for sting rays. In late fall, swimming is not as enjoyable due to the possibility of stinging jellyfish.

Directions

By train

From Atashika (新鹿) Station on the Kisei Main Line, it is just behind you on the sea. The beach is clearly visible from the train line. Be warned that it is not a tokkyū stop and that local trains are extremely infrequent between Kumano and Owase.

By car

You should see signs for Atashika Beach from Route 42, you'll need to turn onto Route 737 to get there. Coastal Route 311 goes right by the beach.
