Materials

Students and their desks in columns and rows

Directions

Students start standing and raise their hand first to answer a question/say the vocabulary word. If they are correct they sit down and choose the rows to their right, left, front, or back to sit down and be safe as well. The last person standing has to do a punishment (variation: they stay standing but choose people to be out, last person standing is the winner)

Variations

  • Reverse: Instead of sitting down after answering, students remain standing and choose a row to sit down and be out. The last person standing is the winner. This is good for classes with students that will inevitably be the last person standing in the batsu version of the game. The only problem is that the same students can end up answering the questions, though if they answer four questions there are no rows left to choose from.
