Northern Mie

Cafés

  • Kuwana : Starbucks
    There are two Starbucks stores in Kuwana. One is located in MyCal Kuwana while the other is located in Sanshi Park, close to Inabe.

Chinese

  • Asahi and Komono : Bamiyan
    A cheap Chinese-style family chain restaurant located all around Japan. Check out their location page to find a Bamiyan near you.

  • Komono : Aiba
    Aiba is a phenomenal Chinese restaurant located in Komono. The head chef was once ranked as an iron chef. Less based on traditional dishes, Aiba brings you the best of Chinese cuisine with an international twist. Be prepared to use a lot of Japanese, especially kanji reading when perusing the menu. A little pricey, but well worth it.

  • Yokkaichi : Big Boy
    Big Boy specializes in Salisbury steaks and other hotplate platters. However, be prepared to finish the cooking process at your table. A great place to dine if your willing to experiment with cooking raw, ground beef at your table. Big Boy can be found on Matsumoto Way in Tokiwa, near Matsumoto eki.

  • Yokkaichi : Baby Face Planets
    There are two locations in Yokkaichi. The first can be found between Tomari station (JR) and Minami Yokkaichi station (Kintetsu). The second is located in Ikuwa near Autobacs.

    Several locations around Yokkaichi. Gusto is your quintessential family restaurant. Some locations are quite smokey, so be warned.

  • Yokkaichi : Le Midi
    On the second floor of a tall white building just outside of Ise Matsumoto station. If you speak French, the owner/head chef would likely love to talk to you. He's extremely friendly and the food he prepares is divine. Be prepared to use a lot of Japanese, especially kanji reading when perusing the menu. A little pricey, but well worth it.

  • Asahi : Chand Pur
    Traditional Indian cuisine.
    Hours: Tues~Sun 11am-2pm (lunch), 5pm-10pm (dinner)
  • Yokkaichi : Indo Mura
    Punjab style Indian food. Located a 2 minute walk from Yokkaichi station as you walk towards LaLa Square.

Italian

  • Komono : Marinos

  • Yokkaichi : Cannery Row
    An amazing pasta and cake restaurant. The main option is either a choice pasta with salad, drink, and desert bar viking. All of the food is high quality while the deserts are to scrumptious.

    Kura is located just outside of Kintetsu Yokkaichi. As you exit the north side and walk towards Apita and Lala Square, you'll see it on your left on the second floor (about half way between the station exit and Apita).

  • Komono : Yaharaka
    The most delicious tonkatsuya ever in the area!

  • Kuwana : Ino
    Ino is a vegetarian friendly restaurant. It will still be hard to find vegan friendly dishes here as cheese is used in many dishes, but they are usually okay with removing dairy products (if possible) for you.

  • Yokkaichi : Bakuya
    Amazing ramen shop where they make their own Hakata style noodles and tonkotsu soup bases. The challenge version of their akamen is super spicy!

    Accessible by the 80 bus, Vegecube serves up a multitude of fusion dishes. Many of the dishes are vegan and vegetarian friendly, but not all.

Korean

    This is a really good Korean restaurant just outside Kintetsu Yokkaichi's north exit. It's pretty popular so reservations are recommended, especially on the weekends. Go out the north exit and turn left. It's on the second floor, in the same building as Komeda Coffee. It also has branches in Komono and near Kasumigaura Station

  • Suzuka : The Tacos
    A small, Mexican food restaurant located near Kintetsu Shiroko Station. Check out some comments, photos, and ratings on Tabelog.

    About a 10-15 minute walk from Kintetsu-Yokkaichi Stn.

    Located in Ikuwa, it's accessible by both bus and car. Namaste is owned by the same people who own Kathmandu, however the prices are more reasonable, curry selection is broader, and food portions are larger. The trade off is that it is less accessible to people without a car.

  • Asahi : Bronco Billy Steak House
    A Japanese steakhouse offering steaks from Australia. Unfortunately, they serve all of their steaks on hotplates, so even if you ask for rare, you get well-done.

    Best burger joint in town.

Central Mie

Chinese

  • Tsu : Hyoka Gyouza
    Delicious and filling. Set 'teishoku' meals are around 900yen but ordering by the plate is also reccomendede. The hyoka gyoza are especially well known and delicious.

  • Tsu : Shokudouen - Yakiniku
    Excellent lunch menu for a reasonable price (the sets are under 1,000 yen for lunch time yakiniku-ing!) and in the evening has a good selection of Matsusaka beef yakiniku. Can get pricey in the evening, around 3,000 yen per person would be the average if you are careful about what you are ordering. Also has a selection of Korean food like bibinbap etc. on the menu.

  • Hisai : Chabelita
    A small, rustic style Mexican food restaurant located near Kintetsu Hisai Station. Check out the menu, photos, and location on Chabelita's homepage.
    Hours:11:30-14:00 / 16:00-23:00 (last order at 22:00). Closed Tuesdays.

Western Style

  • Tsu : Burgerland
    Located off the 23 towards Suzuka.

    Lunch is the best time to come here as for 850yen you get a main dish, a little salad, a small soup and a drink. The evening features a wide range of pasta and French/Italian/Spanish inspired dishes but can get a little pricey at around 2500-3000 per person. Exit Tsu station on the JR side and turn right on the corner with the estate agent and bookstore (which has lots of adult magazines right outside!) and keep going straight, passing Pachinko and a music store. Cross the street where the railway crossing is and it will be on your left next to the 'members club Azabu'.

    Mixed menu but sells things like salad, pizza and pasta etc. Delicious! Popular with students from Mie University. To get here is a three minute walk approx. from Edobashi Station. A good place if there is a bunch of you hanging out in the evening! Nice, studenty vibe.

Eastern Mie

Chinese

  • Ise : Tontei (とん亭) - Chinese (map for both locations)
    Japanized Chinese food (ramen, gyoza, chahan, kara'age) with a large menu. The kara'age at this place is particularly good. Leaner meat mixed with good spices. They also offer their special "tonteki set" with diced pork in a special sauce, rice, vegetables, and miso. There are two locations (both in Ise), one near Miyamachi, the other near the Ise post office.
    Menu: No English; Pictures but only for the meal sets
    Prices: Varying, but most meal sets start around ¥800
    Hours: 11:00 - 14:00 (lunch); 18:30 - 26:30 (aka 2:30am); open 7 days a week

Japanese

  • Ise : Biyagura (麦酒蔵) - Craft beer and food
    Official brewpub/restaurant owned by Ise Kadoya Brewery to serve their locally-brewed craft beer.
  • Ise : Misuzu (美鈴) - Gyoza (map)
    Tiny restaurant that is famous for gyoza, also has kara'age (with bones). The gyoza are handmade and superb. This place doesn't have a menu since it offers so few items, so just walk in and ask for some gyoza.
    Menu: No menu!
    Prices: One plate (8 gyoza) is ¥450
    Hours: 17:00 - 24:00; closed Mondays
