There are three major banks in Mie Prefecture.

Within Mie Prefecture

Major Banks

There are three major banks within Mie Prefecture. All 3 offer the same basic services however online banking is not available with any of them.

  • 105 Bank (百五銀行 hyakugo ginkō)
  • Mie Bank (三重銀行 mie ginkō)
  • Third Bank (第三銀行 daisan ginkō)

Of these, Hyakugo (105) is the biggest and thus the most convenient however some JETs will not be signed up with this bank because there may not be a branch near where they live.

Other Financial Institutions

The following services are available throughout the prefecture and may be the most accessible in rural areas.

  • JA (農協 nōkyō)
  • Japan Post (ゆうちょ銀行 yūcho ginkō)
  • Local trusts and credit unions (金庫 kinko)

Outside Mie Prefecture

Some of the major Japanese and/or foreign banks offer more services than ones in Mie.

  • CitiBank - offer online banking, including internet furikomi
  • Tokyo Mitsubishi UFJ Bank
  • Mitsui Sumitomo Bank
