Chūbu International Airport (中部国際空港 chūbu kokusai kūkō), airport code NGO, goes by a variety of other names such Central Japan International Airport, Nagoya International Airport, and the local favorite nickname of Centrair (セントレア) as well; is a major airport just south of Nagoya that was constructed in 2005. It is on the direct opposite side of Ise Bay from Suzuka, and so access is fairly convenient from northern and central Mie.

It is Japan's third major international airport and given its recent construction it is a beautiful facility that without a doubt makes it one of the nicest airports in the entire world. It was constructed on a man-made island in Tokoname, off the coast of Aichi Prefecture.

Directions

By Train

Rail is slightly more expensive than other options, however it is often the fastest, especially for anybody living north of Tsu. Train is also the option that runs the most frequently, with buses once every two hours and ferries once every one or two hours.

First, get yourself to Nagoya Station via either JR or Kintetsu. From Nagoya Station, take the Meitetsu in the direction of Chūbu Kokusai Kūkō. The limited express (特急 tokkyū) will get you from Nagoya to the airport in 35 minutes and costs ¥850.

Unlike Kintetsu, Meitetsu limited express trains often have fare-free cars, so you do not necessarily have to pay extra. However there is a special limited express train, called the "Myū Sky", which runs twice an hour and does require an extra fee of ¥350. It does the run between Nagoya and the airport in 28 minutes.

By Bus

Buses connect Centrair to a number of cities around the Tōkai and Chūbu region. Most of these cities are not in Mie, however there is a bus to and from Yokkaichi and Kuwana. At only ¥1200, this is the cheapest way to get to the airport, however it is much slower than a train would take from the same destination, and also runs only once every two hours.

From Yokkaichi

• First, get yourself to either Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station via Kintetsu. The bus stop is out the west exit, close to the AM/PM convenience store.
• It takes 85 minutes and costs ¥1200.

From Kuwana

• First, get yourself to Kuwana Station via Kintetsu or JR. The bus stop is out the JR side and to the right, where the large bus rotary area is.
• It takes 55 minutes and costs ¥1200.

From Centrair

• If catching the bus at Centrair back to Mie, there are monitors throughout the airport listing all departing buses and what bus stop you can catch them at.
