After being grilled about your driving history (i.e. the Aptitude test), you will be asked to take the written test.
About the Test
Test Facts
- Questions - There are 10 True/False questions, almost all of which contain a diagram/image. You will be asked to mark your responses using O/X.
- Time Limit - You will have 10 minutes to complete the written test.
- Test Language - Fear not, for the test can be taken in English. The questions are clear and translated properly for the most part, but there may be a few sentences with questionable/confusing grammar.
- Grading - A passing grade is 7/10 questions correct. You may only be told that you passed, or you may be told your score, or you may be told exactly how many and which questions you missed.
General Tips
- Take a Practice Test - See the links section below for a great website with 3 practice tests. (It is likely that the actual written test will contain some of these practice test questions - and they might even be worded exactly the same way!)
- Know Your Stuff - Spend some time reviewing The Rules of the Road and studying Japanese road signs.
- Common Sense - Most of the questions are extremely easy, and assuming you have a head on your shoulders, you should be able to pass with flying colors. Occasionally there may be a confusing question due to the translation, but the thing to remember is DON'T OVER-THINK IT. The questions are very simple in nature and are not intended to trick or fool you.
The Next Step
Assuming all your documents are in order AND you provided sufficient information during the Aptitude test AND you passed the eye test AND you got at least 7 questions correct on the Written test, you will then be able to schedule an appointment for your Driving Test. This is when the real fun begins!
