Karaoke

Karaoke (空オケ), is one of Japan's modern past times and among the most common things groups of friends will do together when hanging out or drinking.

In Japan, unlike in many western countries, karaoke is generally done in a small booth with just your friends instead of on the stage at a bar where everyone in the place gets to (has to) listen to you.

Chain Establishments

Most chain places are pay-by-the-hour. Some places may ask you to prove your age, a measure to counteract rampant underage drinking by high school students who are largely obsessed with karaoke.

  • Japan Rent-a-car
This company rents cars during the day and provides karaoke booths at night – an unconventional, yet very logical (and successful) business model. Great song selection, and very cheap.
    Locations:
    • Ise
    • Nabari
    • Suzuka
    • Tsu
    • more?
  • Shidax
The booths are a bit more luxurious and have a decent food selection, but are also more expensive. Song selection arguably not as good as Rent-a-car.
    Locations:
    • Suzuka
    • more
