Shingū (新宮市 : shingū-shi) is a city in Wakayama Prefecture just across the river from the southern end of Mie Prefecture in Kihō. Though it is technically in Wakayama, it is the largest city in the region which comprises Southern Mie.
Transportation
Limited express trains run from Shingū Station directly to Osaka and Kyoto (the long way around the peninsula) as well as Nagoya. The station serves as the point where JR Tokai's domain ends and JR West's domain begins.
Highway buses leave from Shingū bus station (adjacent to the train station) and service Tokyo and Nagoya. This is the cheapest way to get to Tokyo, running around 9000 yen for a one-way ticket.
Shopping
Many ALTs in the south do most of their shopping there. As far as the deep south JETs are concerned, it is the big time with an Aeon, movie theater, KFC, Baskin Robbins, Mr. Donuts, Mos Burger, three McDonalds, more kaiten sushi places than you can count, used video games aplenty, and even a natural foods store [コケコッコ] and a (small, small) import foods store [ワールド].
Food and Drink
Whenever someone in the south mentions getting pizza or curry for dinner, they usually mean in Shingū
- インド亭
- Infamous Nepalese curry place in Aeon
- Tre Dita
- Italian pizza place a few minutes walk from the station
